NOC & TEER Research

Use occupation classification correctly: NOC selection is about the lead statement and main duties, not simply choosing the closest job title.

Information snapshot reviewed August 18, 2026. Time-sensitive rules should be verified against the linked official source.

What to verify

  • Your actual job duties compared with the NOC lead statement and main duties.
  • The TEER category and whether the immigration program accepts that occupational level.
  • Whether the specific stream targets, excludes or requires the occupation.
  • Whether the occupation is regulated and needs provincial licensing.
  • Whether the work experience meets the immigration program’s timing, hours, paid-work and continuity rules.

Common mistake: title matching

Job titles vary by employer and country. Immigration analysis should be based on the substance of the work performed and the official NOC description, not a title alone.
